Enterprise Data Landscapes: Data Lakes and Data Marketplaces

The digital transformation generates an increasing volume of heterogeneous data across the entire lifecycle of all kinds of products and services. Comprehensive analytics efforts to extract insights from these huge amounts of data have made enterprise data landscapes far more complex. This poses new challenges to both data management and metadata management. To address these challenges, new kinds of data platforms like data lakes, data catalogs and data marketplaces have emerged. In this talk, we will present major challenges of organizing data in data lakes and how they can be addressed, e.g., by means of zone models and a generic metadata model. We will also address the challenges of sharing data within organizations and discuss how data marketplaces help to support data providers and data consumers.
